چکیده: Abstract: Improving the surface properties of metal materials to increase the life and efficiency of manufactured parts is always considered in the industry. There are various methods to improve surface properties, such as burnishing, shot peening, lapping, ultrasonic hammer and shot peening, hand scraping, etc. Among them, the new method of ultrasonic hammer peening to improve surface properties includes increasing wear, fatigue and corrosion resistance, improvement of surface integrity and hardness, as well as reduction of tensile residual stress, by applying compressive stress, has found a special place in various industries. Considering the use of A860 carbon steel in various industrial components, pipes and joints, the investigation of the use of ultrasonic hammer peening process in improving the surface and mechanical properties of this steel in various industries such as oil and gas, construction industries, agriculture, etc. is needed and important. By using high-frequency (ultrasonic) impacts, it is possible to change the crystal structure of materials, surface roughness, mechanical properties, and the residual stress near the surface. As a result, this method can be considered as a new surface treatment to improve surface and mechanical properties, especially in non-portable structures. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to experimentally investigate the effect of the ultrasonic hammer peening process on the surface properties of A860 steel. In this research, the experimental investigation of the ultrasonic hammer peening process in different conditions including static load of 60, 75 and 90 N, feed speed of 40, 100 and 160 mm/min and the number of passes of 1, 2 and 3 passes, on hardness and abrasion resistance of A86 steel sample. Also, the effect of the impact angle of the abrasive particles and the corrosion resistance of the treated steel sample has been investigated. In order to select the conditions of hammer peening and analyze the results, the response surface method (RSM) has been used, and the effect of each variable and their interaction effect has been discussed. The obtained results show that the ultrasonic hammer peening by impacting on the surface and plastic deformation has reduced the size of the grains on the surface of the material. By increasing the number of passes, feed speed and static load, the hardness has decreased, and as a result, the abrasion (weight loss) has increased. The highest hardness value is obtained in the condition of one pass number and low feed speed. It was also observed that the number of passes has little effect on the hardness at low static load, but in order to achieve high hardness at higher static loads, ultrasonic hammer peening must be done in one pass. High hardness is achieved under static load and low feed speed. The least abrasion occurred at high feed speeds with low static load or at low feed speeds with high static load. In high static load, low number of passes and in low static load, high number of passes will have the least amount of wear. The highest amount of abrasion is when the angle of collision between the abrasive particles and the workpiece surface is 30°, and the ultrasonic hammer peening process on A860 steel has reduced wear by 39% at the angle of 90° and on average by 25% at different angles. The hammered sample has better corrosion resistance than the raw sample. In general, by performing ultrasonic hammer peening on A860 steel, it was found that as a result of this process, the surface properties, including surface hardness, abrasion and corrosion resistance, have been improved.
