The head of the Islamic World Science and Technology Citation and Monitoring Institute (ISC) said: "The ISC 2023 global ranking includes 2,555 universities from 114 countries and 6 continents, of which the Islamic Republic of Iran accounts for 69 universities."

According to Besna, and quoting the Ministry of Science, Seyyed Ahmad Fazelzadeh said: The ranking and evaluation of 115 public universities and 17 private universities in the country was carried out by the ISC ranking group, and the results of this evaluation were approved at the 970th meeting of the Higher Education Development Council of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology today (Sunday, January 2, 1402).

Fazelzadeh added: In this ranking, the general criteria for evaluating and ranking universities and higher education institutions are in 6 areas: education (with a weight of 30 percent), research (with a weight of 25 percent), technology and innovation (with a weight of 20 percent), internationalization (with a weight of 10 percent), economic impact (with a weight of 10 percent), and social services, infrastructure and facilities (with a weight of 5 percent), which has not changed compared to previous years.

He added: Each of these main criteria is divided into a number of main indicators and sub-indicators, and the university's performance in each of them is evaluated separately. Table 1 shows the main criteria.

The head of the ISC Institute continued: The information required for ranking universities and research institutions has been collected in three ways:

1- Research information based on national and international databases, which is extracted and monitored by the ISC Institute's Ranking and Citation Analysis Management.

2- Self-declaration of universities, which is obtained by completing an electronic ranking questionnaire by university liaisons.

3- Some educational information that is provided to the ranking group through the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology or its subordinate organizations.

He said: In the ranking for the year 2021-2022, a total of 115 public universities and 17 private universities are present, whose information has been reviewed and evaluated, and each has been classified and ranked based on its nature. The difference between this classification and the rankings of previous years is that universities affiliated with executive agencies are placed in a separate category. The ranking also takes into account the performance of comprehensive, industrial, agricultural, arts, and executive universities.

The statistics of university attendance based on the classification of universities are as follows in Table 2:
